Products to use up by the end of 2014!!!

The "threat" of moving has passed... such is military life!  But I still feel this urge to downsize like a move is imminent.  We usually move every 3 years, and that was passed on July 2nd at our current duty station and we still have a month and a half of summer left.  I shouldn't even talk about it!  Moves can be fun, but they can also be stressful.  The kids are really excelling at school, truly gifted, and I do not want to uproot their lives at the moment...

Also...  I just made out my Sephora wishlist!  VIB by the end of the year.  I have goals people!  So since I tend to be an over achiever in the beauty department, why not plan ahead accordingly?  I will be sure to share soon.

UPDATED!

I will start with skin care:

Previously mentioned in my current skincare post there are a few products that are more than half way done.  I want to continue using up those products.  Which shouldn't be a problem because it is really working out for me.  When my Olay night cream runs out, I will just switch to using my oils full time.  Likewise with the Olay eye cream DONE!, the Ole Heniksen will work fine day and night.

Here are some specific skin care items that I would like to work my way through as well by the end of the year:

Clinique All About Eyes Serum:  This is a nice product to depuff in the morning.  I like to slap this on right after washing my face, let it do it's magic and then follow up with an eye cream.  This product got lost in my Alex drawers.  Poor thing.

L'OREAL Youth Code Texture Perfector.  I don't really have an opinion of this.  I haven't seen any benefits of using this.  Hopefully with more consistent use, something will happen!  Stay tuned. 1/4 left to go!

Shiseido Pureness anti-shine refreshing lotion: I have a back up of this so I really need to be more consistent with its useage.  I will apply this product after cleansing and toning.  It is a salicylic acid treatment.  I have a quarter of the bottle left.  DONE!

Lotions: St. Ives Fresh Hydration Lotion Coconut Milk and Orchid Extract and Citrus and Vitamin C DONE!: These spray lotions are fun.  I'm not sure if they provide enough hydration for my skin though.  I have a lot of lotion to use up and these aren't my favorite scents.  They smell lovely but I have 2 super favorites and backups.  I'm hoping by leaving this out, I will be better about using lotion in general.  My skin gets really dried out in the summer! Stress Relief eucalyptus tea body cream and also Beach Sexy Tinted Body Lotion are both on the list to finish up as well.

Makeup:

3 foundations: L'OREAL Magic Nude Liquid Powder has about 3/4 left, Covergirl Outlast is nearing 3/4 BOTH DONE! and Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear Makeup (GAVE AWAY!) is pretty much full.  I have an obscene amount of brand new foundations lined up for winter and next summer at this and these are my 3 oldest.  L'OREAL and Covergirl are too light, Neutrogena is too dark/pink.  Neutrogena was a Bzz Agent #Gotitfree product that is quite nice but the color match is off. I'm hoping I can whip up a good color match by mixing.  This will be a tough area for me since I am really loving the Covergirl Outlast mixed with L'OREAL Lumi in W3.  It's perfection!  Well at least I will finish one foundation.  :)

Concealers: Maybelline FitMe in Light and Fair.  I really like these concealers.  It's strange that initially I did not.  However, I have many more in my drawer to use up as well.  I always know I can come back to FitMe ones though!  They are getting older and it's time to use them up. BOTH DONE!

Corrector:  I was going to list the Covergirl Olay corrector but who am I kidding.  It will never be used up in 2014.  However my Bobbi Brown in Light Bisque already has pan showing. MAJOR PAN! I really want to use this up and pick up the Armani Master Corrector which has been on my list for probably 2 years now.

Mascara: I have 2 more samples of Urban Decay Curling mascara to use up after an Almay intense I-color volumizing mascara and a water-proof L'OREAL Lash Out Butterfly mascara.  That should be plenty for less than 6 months.  ALL DONE!

Eyeliners:  My entire drawer basically but for immediate use Cailyn Gel Eyeliner Blue.  This gel liner is smudge proof and water resistant.  Should be perfect for the summer!  I picked up the blue at my first and only IMATS 2 years ago!  Eek!  I probably shouldn't even use it.

Bronzer:  Sonia Kashuk undetectable cream bronzer in warm tan.  I have hit pan on this beauty and absolutely love it.  However, it is a cream product so it is not going to last long.  I bought it last summer.  DONE!

Primers: L'OREAL Revitalift Miracle Blur and Clarins Instant Smooth are getting pretty old.  I also have 2 illuminating primers; Boost-It Instant Complexion Enhancer and L'OREAL Magic Lumi, equally in the aging cosmetic department.  The illuminating primers will work well with the 3 semi-matte foundations that I'm trying to use up!

Other random samples:

Kiehl's Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Corrector
Too Faced Primed and Poreless
Lorac POREection mattifying face primer
Sephora Anti-shine Foundation Primer
Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm
Guerlain Essence L'Or
Benefit Big Easy (I want a full size of this so bad!!!  But I have too much right now!!!)
Peter Thomas Roth Squalane Oil

I also want to finish up a Rembrandt 2 Hour Whitening Kit.  I can only stand to do this 20 minutes at a time so I have 2 applications left! DONE!

So not a ton of products... If I get through this round quickly, I'm sure I can find more. ;)

What's in My Travel Makeup Bag

I previously mentioned in my Week 14 Skincare/Makeup box post that I have been walking past my travel zebra makeup bag on my dresser for months.  I used to travel for work 1-2 times a month and I believe I changed everything out and packed it up after the first of the year.  It's only been moved to dust so far this year and I had forgotten what was in it until now!

The pink & red striped bag (old Target sample bag) is used infrequently and stored in my purse/bag. Over the weekend I realized my NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder and Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Foundation Powder were in there.  I have been looking for them!

I also have a Philosophy eye hope concealer in extra light, Aveda Hand Cream, Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream (also was looking for this), Bath and Body Works hand Sanitizer, Sircuit Skin Cosmceuticals molecular Mist Hydrating Moisture Therapy, Chapstick in Rasperry Cream, Vaseline Lip therapy rosy lips and a Sigma F30 Large Travel Powder brush.

The Zebra makeup bag was a steal from Coldwater Creek a few years ago.  It also fits a ton apparently.  It's a double zip and nice quality.

For skincare I have Olay Regenerist eye lifting serum, Elizabeth Arden 8 hour lip protectant stick SPF 15, Sephora Anti-Shine Foundation Primer, Target up&up oil-absorbing sheets, and Anthony Logistics for Men Instant Fix Oil Control.  I use this when my skin is super oily in the summer.  It works like a charm. I blot first then apply this over my makeup and I have instant matte skin.  It's amazing.  I will always have some of this on hand.

For makeup I have Maybelline Fit Me Shine-Free Foundation in 120 Classic Ivory, Beauty Base Foundation in Skintone 3 (Birchbox sample?), Philosophy the supernatural lit from within healthy cream blush in 01 bare your soul, Maybelline Expert Wear Eyeshadow in 10 Sunbaked Neutrals (never used, seal still intact), Rimmel Match Perfection 2-in-1 Concealer & Highlighter in 125 Fair, Urban Decay Lip Junkie in Naked, Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in 651 Porcelain Pink and in 205 Champagne on Ice.

I have some hand wipes and Witch Hazel wipes for my face.

For brushes I have an Ecotools travel kabuki which I love, a tiny mark eye trio, Bare Minerals liner brush and a Sigma E-25 blending brush.  Some Q-tips and a sample perfume Ageless by Harvey Prince.

Time to rotate some of these items out.  I also just tried on the 2 Revlon lipsticks and the Champagne on Ice is a frosty light orange on me.  Not a good look.  I'm not sure if this color changed or what?  Also the Porcelain Pink is in the pearl finish and it's just too frosty on my lips for my taste. I'm going to pitch these two.

The Urban Decay Lip Junkie just feels heavy and sticky on my lips.  It still tastes minty and feels plumping but I can't get over that uncomfortable heavy feeling on my lips.  Time to let it go!  *currently singing Let it Go from the movie Frozen*  :)

So this will be my makeup for Week 14.  Since we will be travelling at the end of the month, I will update my travel makeup essentials and share my new selections with you!

The Road to VIB

Most retailers have a Rewards Program.  What's not addicting than a little positive reinforcement to our spending?  It keeps the customer happy and spending and the store happily churns out the profits.  Win!  :)

One thing I dislike about Sephora was the $8 shipping charge.  I live 2.5-3 hours away from a Sephora.  I found myself ordering a lot from Nordstrom as they always have free shipping.  So when Sephora offered free 2-day shipping for the rest of the year for $10 or maybe it was $20, I scooped that right up.

Shipping is immediate, within 24 hours.  Most of my orders did come within 2-3 days, the Naked3 palette took 4 for example.

And that's what I like about Sephora.  They know their customer.  They ship fast, their communication is superb, ship with samples, have a generous rewards program, have Friends & Family sales and give out a $15-$20 giftcard near the end of the year.  It's strategic and effective at satisfying the customer and at keeping us ordering!

And order did I with the free 2 day shipping which I hope that they offer again next year!

Over the summer, end of August to be exact, I placed an order for Soap & Glory Fab Pore Hot Cloth Cleanser and I noticed that I had over 350 points so I cashed them in on various deluxe samples and just assumed I was a VIB after that order or very close to it.  I didn't realize that you had to spend $350 in a single calendar year, January to December.  I was over $200 away...  Oh the disappointment!

In November, I noticed that I was $168 away.  I thought never am I going to make it this year.  But after trading some Victoria Secret cards for Beauty Insider gift cards (thanks ladies!) it quickly became a reality and my last order of NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder, earned me Very Important Beauty Insider baby!

Now what does this mean?

Shop the 20% off VIB sale.
VIB gifts.
Double/Triple point ordering periods.
In-store events (that I probably won't be able to take advantage of).
Opportunities to order new products first.

But VIB Rouge is really something to strive for!

After a $1000 spent at Sephora, you become VIB Rouge.  Everything VIB plus free shipping on all orders and special gifts.  At first I thought no way, but I definitely (sadly but happily!) spend $1000 a year on skincare, Clarisonic brush heads, makeup, nail files, oil blotting sheets, foundations, powders, eye primers, makeup removers...

I just checked my status and it seems that I am $644 away.  Hmm...  But will my points start back at zero January 1st?  I think so.

So here are my most recent purchases that put me into VIB status:

I did use 3 $15 Beauty Insider gift cards that I traded Victoria's Secret Secret Rewards cards saving me $45 total which was a nice bonus.

1. Not pictured are of course, an expensive necessity, Clarisonic brush heads twin pack-Deep Pore.

2. Naked3

3. NARS Cream Blush in Enchanted which was on sale for $10!  Couldn't resist with free shipping.  :)

4. NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder.  I was torn between this and the Hour Glass Ambient Lighting powder but ultimately went with this.  I'm nearing the end of my Rimmel Stay Matte powder which has not been sitting nicely on my skin as of late.  I've hit major pan, not sure if it's old, my skin is a bit dryer, the wrong color but it's translucent...  I needed a change.

5. Shiseido eyelash curler which was a major necessity after my Urban Decay eyelash curlers broke off my lashes!  I'm not sure if I was over due changing the rubber pad or what but the outside of my right eye and the inside of my left eye lashes were stubs for about a month.  We are talking almost midway about 1/2 inch.  I will do a review on the Shiseido so look for that soon!

Are you a Beauty Insider, VIB or VIB rouge?

Naked3 by Urban Decay

"They" (the internets) said it was coming.  Pictures surfaced on French blogs unexpectedly, cries of deception and fake palettes, photos of Sephora receipts as proof on Instagram and then Boom!  November release date in the good 'ole US of A.

I had Naked3 in my cart at 10am on UrbanDecay.com.  Checked back later and darn, it was sold out... to my relief though.  I felt a bit guilty, well a lot guilty buying an extravagant gift for myself so close to Christmas.

Then the December release date at Sephora.  I of course stayed up on December 5 waiting for a midnight release, consequently fell asleep and then woke up after midnight.  A couple of days previous, Sephora gave out its annual Beauty Insider and VIB/VIB Rouge Gift Cards so of course I ended up ordering!

Looking back at my photo files on my computer I see that it has been almost exactly a year from when I took pictures of the Naked Basics palette.  Time flies when you're getting Naked!

The palette itself is similar to the Naked2 with the plastic/metal concept. I really like it.  It snaps securely closed and it is a hard case.  There are 2 "teeth" if you will, on the top of the case that snap into the bottom of the palette.  In my Naked 2 case, I just recently noticed that one of these snapped off.  It still closes securely, but I noticed with Naked3 you have to push the top lid over just slightly when closing to make sure that they fit in their respective grooves.  If that makes sense...

I do find that the double ended brush is a bit stiff.  I use my original Naked brush everyday to apply my Bobbi Brown corrector and Naked2 double ended brush for lining with powder and blending.  I see myself using this new brush for under brow and inner lid highlight and maybe cream shadows.

All in all I think that this is a lovely palette, as with the other 2.  The shadows are the same quality and consistency of the previous and should not be a disappointment for us UD fans unless of course the fans really set on a matte palette.

I think that we all thought that this installment was going to be all matte.  There is a want and a need for matte shadows.  They break up the shimmer and glitter and transform an eye look by giving it dimension.  And that is what the Naked Basics does for us. But Naked Basics left something more to be desired.  Yet most of us (raise of hands please!) use it faithfully everyday...

The next Naked Basics2 will probably be a more warmer palette.  Expect that next year in December.  You heard it here first!  Kidding, I have no idea what UD HQ is brainstorming or developing at the moment.  To be on that team though...  Dare to dream!

Rest  assured it's coming.  I can feel it!  UD is trying to formulate the best matte shadows EVER!

But I love my shimmer!  Keep Bringing it UD!  And Naked3 does not disappoint.  2 "chunky" glitters, 3 mattes, and 2-3 satins, 4-5 shimmers, depending upon your subjective view.  Lights, darks...  This palette has it all in the ever popular rose gold color scheme.  The range is there for 10's of dozens of eye looks as with the first 2 and now we have 3 to play around with!!!

Did you pick up Naked3?  Which one is your favorite in the Naked series?

Sephora Pantone Shades of Nature Eye Shadow Palette

Pantone Shades of Nature Eye Shadow Palette in a Beauty Insider Exclusive that features 35 gorgeous shades from neutrals to brights, shimmer, satins and mattes.  It's a lovely addition to my ever growing collection of palettes.  I never purchased any 88 palettes, for the life of me I don't know how I resisted to be frank. Well for starters, 88 colors would make my head spin.  I would never be able to decide what colors to choose!

35 is just right.  And the colors are perfect; lights, brights and darks that span across cool tones, warms and neutrals.  You can play it up, tone it down, it can be taken to and used for every occasion.  In fact, I had my sister's wedding in mind when I ordered this.  A few of the bridesmaids will need help with their makeup and I want to bring a variety of colors and finishes for all eye shapes and complexions.  This comes in a sleek, iPad shape and size, with a large mirror on the inside.  Very cool.

Since it was such a gorgeous day out today, I decided to photograph it outside!

I did all the swatches on my arm primed with Rachel K CC cream.  Not sure why I grabbed this.  I just didn't want to use up my Too Faced Shadow Insurance.  I have a separate review coming up on Rachel K.  Look for that soon!

Without hesitation or thinking, I just swatched across.  Half way through, I wish I swatched down.  But you get the idea about the shadows and the color payoff.  I found them all to be nicely pigmented, most of are buttery soft except for a few, mostly matte shades.  Some were outstanding, some need building which will be best used wet or over a primer or both.  I do not think eyeshadows are necessarily bad if they need a primer.  Most shadows perform much better when used with a primer, high end or low end.

I will point these particular shades out on my arm swatches.  When I describe it as "needs building" what I mean is that I have to swipe it 2-3 times to get the color payoff and they are best used with a primer or wet for best color payoff.  But as you will see from the photos below, the color payoff is there.  Before buying this palette the reviews weren't stellar but I couldn't pass it up because of the variety.  I'm glad I didn't.

Other than that, it is at a competitive price point ($55) for the amount of shadows that you are receiving and the quality.  I've never ordered a Sephora palette before so I am unable to compare the quality to previous collaborations and current shadows unfortunately.

Here are the first row swatches, left to right:

11-0907 (cream shimmer), 13-1107 (pale champagne shimmer), 12-1209 (pale peach shimmer), 12-2903 (light purple/lilac shimmer), 13-4108 ( pale moss green shimmer ), 13-8105 (mint green shimmer), 12-0712 (antique gold shimmer)

This photo is a bit washed out but they are shimmery, frosty, pale colors perfect for inner corner and brow highlights and blending.  For some, these might be your "boring" shades but I find them very useful for toning down looks and adding a little brightness to the center of the eyelid as well as highlighting.  The were all buttery, soft and smooth, perfect application.

Second row swatches from left to right:

15-1511 (light cocoa brown satin), 12-0812 (yellow satin needs building), 12-1310 (pale matte pink needs building), 13-2802 (plum satin, super soft), 17-3802 (gunmetal gray satin), 13-5313 (aqua green satin), 12-0736 (canary yellow satin, needs building)

The super soft plum 13-2802 is a bit staining so make sure you use a base with this one!

Third row swatches from left to right:

17-1227 (grey brown satin), 14-1312 (dark ripened peach satin), 14-2808 (frosty pink), 17-3725 (purple satin, needs building), 17-3911 (dark grey satin), 15-4421 (bright peacock blue shimmer), 13-0645 (lime green shimmer)

All buttery soft and smooth, 17-1227 and 17-3725, less buttery than the rest.

Fourth row swatches from left to right:

18-1320 (coppery brown shimmer), 15-1327 (medium peach shimmer), 16-2615 (medium pink satin), 19-3619 (blue purple satin, almost a duochrome, needs building), 19-3928 (navy blue satin, needs building)  15-4717 (teal shimmer), 17-6219 (metallic kelly green shimmer)

My favorite of course is the kelly green but I really want to do a look with the coppery brown and the teal first!  The navy blue and dark blue purple are not as soft as the others.

Fifth row swatches from left to right:

19-0916 (cool matte dark brown), 15-1333 (orange shimmer), 17-2625 (hot bubblegum pink satin), 19-3713 (dark grey hint of purple matte), 19-4205 (black/dark grey matte), 17-4427 (dark blue green shimmer), 18-5606 (metallic forest green)

There are a few who dock points off when palettes do not have dark matte shades.  Well here you go!  Perfect for deepening creases, setting gel liners.

I am really enjoying the variety of colors and finishes.  For me, this palette offers endless possibilities!

Sephora!!!

No haul unfortunately.  This was my first time in a Sephora store!  Insane, I know!  When we lived in Virginia the closest one was about an hour away but with traffic 2-3 hours depending on the time of day. And I never got to the Georgetown one.  But Ulta was always right down the street.

We drove up to Syracuse this morning and only had 45 minutes for the mall.  I literally had no time to indulge!  So disappointing.  But I did get color sampled for NARS Sheer Glow.  Thinking Mont Blanc was going to be too pink I dismissed it.  Sure enough, it was a perfect match!  Siberia was a touch too yellow on me.  I'm going to be good and finish up my Revlon PhotoReady before purchasing any more liquid foundations.  But I'm happy I found a match!

Now I haven't been to an Ulta since I left Virginia 3 years ago since the closet one is up near Syracuse as well.  I totally took living right next to Ulta for granted.  lol

Sephora did not disappoint.  It wasn't a huge store but I swatched a ton of things, saw colors that I've been contemplating ordering on-line...  I was a kid in a candy store it was so amazing.  I could have spent at least 2 hours in there.  The samples they had out were totally disgusting, I of course went crazy with q-tips and baby wipes trying colors out on my hands but it was so fun!  I didn't even have time to take pictures of my swatches!

The sales associates were so nice.  My son was running around acting like a nut and one lady was giving him high fives and distracting him with stickers.

I want to go back!

What is all this?

Happy Saturday!!!

It's a Sephora haul!!!  Believe me the boxes are very deceiving...

15% off VIB haul!

Naked palette!!!  Yay!  OMG the eyeshadows are just amazing and creamy-like and look just beautiful. Pigmented like crazy.  I've ordered Urban Decay through Haute Look once and it was crap.  This palette is serious business.

I was so excited about the NARS Sheer Glow and hoping my foundation nightmares were over but it looked awful.  I got Deauville and it was just yellow on my face, like my nails the other day.  It has beautiful coverage and my face was super soft and dry, not greasy after application.  I really liked the way it felt but then when I took the hand mirror and looked at myself it natural light, it was quite scary.  I was afraid Mont Blanc would be to pink and Gobi was described as being for Asian skin and Deauville said neutral with balanced pink and yellow undertones.  I don't think so.  The next two shades are described as yellow undertones so I guess I striked out with NARS.  Oh well.  Try-try again!

The benefit to go "stay put" set includes Stay don't stry, Erase Paste and creaseless cream eyeshadow/liner in R.S.V.P. which I have wanted forever.  The Erase Paste is A-MAZING!  Yet, the medium included in the set is way too dark for me.   And I didn't realize how tiny this set was.  I mean, tiny, tiny.  So I need to order a full-size erase paste in fair.

The little pink box behind it is Tarino Tarantino Sparklicity Pure Sparkle Powder.  And it is sparklily.  Lots and lots of sparkles.  I just have to figure out a way to 1. put it on without dumping it every where and 2. put it on tastefully so I don't look like I'm trying to channel Tinkerbell.

I received the Philosphy happy birthday vanilla birthday cake shower gel and bubble bath for my birthday gift!  Yay!  And that is exactly what it smells like.

And the rest are samples that I can't wait to try out.  I will of course we documenting my reviews for all of you!

Love Sephora

I wish I had a store close by though.  So I calmly explained my virus and of course they would extend Chic week for me.  Yay!

Moral of the story, it never hurts to ask!

So in my ever ending quest to find my perfect foundation, NARS Sheer Glow is the next on my list.  15% off is pretty sweet.

Fingers crossed!

UD Naked Palette

Hurray!  The Naked Palette is back in stock at Sephora.com.  Conveniently after Chic Week has ended.   I had this mysterious virus last night as I was doing some research on NARS Sheer glow in Deauville.  I clicked on what I thought was a review and BAM!  Virus.  It took my close to 4 hours to clean my computer and restore it.  I didn't get to place my order with Sephora either.  That's what I get waiting until the last minute.  Maybe it was a good thing.  But I just got the email that the Naked Palette is back in stock.

Now I want the Naked Palette and the Sheer Glow.  UGH!

UPDATE 4/23:  To be fair, the rep that I spoke to on the phone just a little while ago said that Sephora themselves got the email Friday morning that they had a limited quantity of Urban Decay palettes in stock.   They had no idea when this was going to happen.

Just checking around...

to see if I could get a sneak peak of the holiday palette from Sephora this year and I came across this:

A color diary of 5 palettes in one.  It also comes with a portable case so you can take a look to go!  All color coordinated with blush and lip gloss.  And the lipglosses are in tubes!  Not in the embedded in the palette so they don't get all dried out and gross mixed with the eyeshadows.  Love it!  All for $34?  What?  I'm super intrigued.  This is when I get really irritated that I do not have a Sephora any where near me!  AHH!!!  I've never tried Sephora eye shadows so I am not sure of the quality but for $34, this is a great way to test it out and not be completely bummed if they don't work out.  Plus Sephora offers free returns...

Is this a need or a want?  It's very difficult to travel with my mineral eyeshadows...

Color Diary ($155 Value)

What it is:
